Camden Campus
Rowan University has been an integral part of Camden for 40 years, evolving from the Camden Urban Center, to a branch campus of the main Glassboro campus. Its mission has always been to improve the lives of the residents of Camden through education. ROWAN@CAMDEN’s current offerings include academic majors (sociology, elementary education and law/justice) and general education courses. Day and evening courses are offered to accommodate diverse student work schedules.
ROWAN@CAMDEN also provides superior programs that reach out to the Camden community, thus providing pathways to higher education unlike any other in the region.
- CHAMP/Gear Up—A pre-college program for students in grades 7 through 12.
- Upward Bound for English Language Learners—A pre-college program that serves Camden’s English language learners in the district’s high schools.
- English as a Second Language—A university-level ESL program for current or prospective Rowan university students.
- ROWAN@CAMDEN Preschool—The preschool provides outstanding early childhood education to the Camden community.
Expanding Rowan’s Presence in Camden
In 2003, Rowan was selected to receive $5.1 million of nearly $175 million to be invested by the State to help with the redevelopment of the City of Camden. The Rowan University Board of Trustees agreed to match this figure, and the University is now planning to acquire and rehabilitate upwards of 50,000 square feet of space in several contributing historic structures in the Center City Redevelopment Zone. Rowan will vacate the space it currently shares with Camden County College in 2012.
The acquisition of new space will allow Rowan to add new academic programs and services, and expand the campus to 2,000 students by 2015.
