South Jersey Technololgy Park

The South Jersey Technology Park (SJTP) at Rowan University is a 188-acre university research park located at the convenient and highly visible interchange of Routes 55 and 322. Strategically based just 20 miles from Center City, Philadelphia, the Technology Park is in the heart of Gloucester County—one of New Jersey's hottest growth areas.

SJTP allows the university and business community to promote public-private partnerships, expand research and development opportunities and provide technology business services.  Companies located at the Technology Park will have access to some of the brightest young researchers and technology company experts in the region. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work with professors who have national and international reputations in engineering, sciences and business and will gain support for their product development initiatives from a University recognized for its expertise in a wide range of technical fields. Companies will have access to world-class rapid prototyping and research and test facilities unavailable to most developing technology businesses.

Broad Support

In 2001, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority awarded Rowan a grant of $5.8 million to establish the South Jersey Technology Park, which was incorporated in 2002 as a non-profit corporation. A public/private initiative, the Technology Park has received support from numerous organizations and individuals, including the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology ($1.5 million), the Rowan University Foundation ($1 million), South Jersey businessman Samuel H. Jones ($1 million), the U.S. Small Business Administration ($500,000) and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs ($150,000).

The Innovation Center

The first building to be constructed on the University's 580-acre West Campus, the Samuel H. Jones Innovation Center opened in fall 2008. The facility is named for South Jersey businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Samuel H. Jones. His $1 million donation to the Rowan University Foundation in September 2006, earmarked for the construction of the first building, will support the Technology Park's work to attract entrepreneurs to South Jersey and educate tomorrow's technology work force.

The Innovation Center is a unique office and laboratory facility that has been designed to promote synergy between University researchers, commercialization service providers and technology entrepreneurs. In addition, the facility is designed to be highly flexible to accommodate the dynamics of an ever-changing technological marketplace.

The first floor of the $15 million, 45,000 square foot building includes a mix of laboratories and laboratory/office space for private technology-based firms and for Rowan-sponsored research. The Innovation Center will also be the home of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a technology business incubator operated by the William G. Rohrer College of Business at Rowan University.
